The Group was re-formed in summer 2017 and currently has 18 members. Our aim is to agree on a GSSP for the stage as a matter of urgency, and see the proposal through to ratification, hopefully by the end of 2018. We also need to deal with substages, with Lower and Upper substages used very differently in North America and Europe. We believe it is necessary to integrate chemostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy and biostratigraphy in any attempt to understand, correlate and subdivide this exceptionally long stage (c. 12 myr).
